Partners Bulgaria Foundation conducted training for children and youth from Gotse Delchev on “Human rights education and development of democratic culture of young people”

The  training took place in the town of Gotse Delchev between October 28th and 30th. It was conducted withing the project “Increasing democratic competence and understanding of human rights among young people” implemented in the municipalities of Montana, Varshets, Blagoevgrad and Gotse Delchev in partnership with the Academy of Human Rights, Norway, and with the financial support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism.

During the three-day seminar, the students got acquainted with the developed materials and modules on human rights, covering theoretical knowledge and practical skills to assert their rights and to respect and support the rights of others.

The training was attended by 19 young people aged between 14 and 18 from two schools in the town of Gotse Delchev and one school from the municipality of Gotse Delchv – NPG “Dimitar Talev”, PMG “Yane Sandanski” and “St.St. Cyril and Methodius”.

There were a lot of group discussions, demonstrations, exercises and individual work. For many students working in groups and presenting their work to others gave them the opportunity to develop important presentation and teamwork skills.

The interactive activities allowed participants to think what exactly human rights in the every day life or regular citizen. They promoted equal treatment and helped to develop students’ critical thinking and decision-making.

The participants shared their satisfaction with the proposed content of the training. The seminar provided an opportunity to take a closer look at the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as to other major international human rights instruments.

For young people, the opportunity to express their views on various issues such as discrimination, children’s rights and women’s rights was crucial.

At the end of the training, the students reflected and gave ideas about human rights related initiatives in their local community.
