Partners Bulgaria conducted a training seminar for young people from Varshets on March 11 and 12q 2021. The training was attended by 12 students from “Ivan Vazov” School in Varshets. During the seminar, students have been introduced to the history of human rights and became knowledgeable about various documents related to human rights. Interactive methodology was used to communicate the serious content to young people’s understanding.
The participants showed interest in institutions such as the European Court of Justice and its functioning and the ways of dealing with cases in the European Court. Some examples of cases have been discussed.
One of the most appreciated thematic areas of the training was the related to children’s rights. In two groups, students created their own visual projects describing children’s rights. In the exercise, students drew attention to the needs that children have and how the Convention on the Rights of the Child protects them. Students received a specially developed manual on human rights by the Partners Bulgaria Foundation.
The students shared that they learned and enjoyed. One of the participants said “I was worried that due to the long course of the meetings, my attention would be lost, but this changed and I really enjoyed the time spent in the seminar”.
The training is part of a series of training seminars under the project “Increasing democratic competence and understanding of human rights among young people”. The project is implemented in the municipalities of Montana, Varshets, Blagoevgrad and Gotse Delchev in partnership with the Academy of Human Rights, Norway and with the financial support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism.
