The third training seminar in the series of trainings on “Human Rights Education and the Development of a Democratic Culture of Young People” with young people took place in Montana. The training was conducted under the project “Increasing Democratic Competence and Understanding of Human Rights among Young People” and took place on 9-10 March 2021.
The training was attended by 18 young people aged between 15 and 18 from two schools in Montana – 2nd SU “N.Y. Vaptsarov” and PMPG “St. Klimen Ohridski”.
Students received pre-made materials on human rights as well as books and leaflets. They appreciated the opportunity to work in groups in various experimental exercises related to human rights, as well as to get acquainted with a number of documents – the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Students found useful and valuable the training session’s content, working in teams and the interactive methodology. They became familiar with the concept of human rights and with specific topics such as women’s rights and children’s rights.
The young people shared that the training exceeded their expectations: “I expected there to be minimal involvement of participants and only lectures, my expectations were refuted.”; “It exceeded my expectations, I did not expect it to be so interesting.” ; “More people have to join and participate in such seminars”.
The project is implemented in the municipalities of Montana, Varshets, Blagoevgrad and Gotse Delchev in partnership with the Academy of Human Rights, Norway and with financial support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism.
